State Board of Education Mission: The mission of the North Carolina State Board of Education is to use its constitutional authority to guard and maintain the right of a sound, basic education for every child in North Carolina Public Schools.

• The Chronicle Holly Keegan | Nov. 20, 2022: With Republicans on cusp of supermajority, what voters can expect from newly-elected NC state government - These GOP wins, while falling short of the double-supermajority that the party had hoped for, will allow Republican leaders more freedom to advance policies that they have long supported. In addition to increasing their numbers in the legislature, the GOP also flipped two seats on the N.C. Supreme Court, giving them a 5-2 majority and guaranteeing that they will be in control of the state judiciary for the next six to eight years.

School psychologist positions have been particularly hard to fill. Even before the pandemic, some schools struggled to find psychologists. New practitioners have not been entering the field fast enough, and others have been switching to telehealth or private practices with higher pay and often better working conditions.  EdNC Staff | Nov. 17, 2022: Teach for America launched high-impact tutoring program to accelerate student learning in Eastern North Carolina - Press release from Teach for America - Teach For America North Carolina announced today their launch of the Ignite Fellowship, a high-impact tutoring initiative in partnership with Bertie County Public Schools, Edgecombe County Public Schools, and Henderson Collegiate that provides customized small group learning opportunities for students designed to accelerate learning and foster belonging.
