The Carolina Journal - David N. Bass | March 26, 2025: NC Senate bill would add flexibility to school calendars - Senate Bill 754, was filed by was filed by Senate Leader Phil Berger, R-Rockingham, alongside Sens. Amy Galey, R-Alamance, and Michael Lee, R-New Hanover.
WUNC - Adam Wagner | March 25, 2025: NC lawmakers try to keep hemp products out of schools - House Bill 328 would require local school leaders to adopt policies banning the use of most products containing any hemp-based compounds on school grounds.
EdNC - Ben Humphries | March 20, 2025: 'Solly's Law' to restrict youth vaping introduced in NC legislature - House Bill 430 (=S318) would raise the minimum age to buy tobacco in North Carolina from 18 to 21. Federally, the required age has been 21 since 2019.
WRAL - Will Doran | March 25, 2025: NC House passes ban on cellphones in schools, with some exceptions - The bill now goes to the Senate, where lawmakers have been considering their own version of a statewide ban on phones in schools, but with stricter rules than what's proposed in the House bill.

Apply today for the Learning Happens Here Field Trip Fund, which reimburses NC public schools for visits to any state site managed by the NC Department of Natural & Cultural Resources (DNCR). Eligible destinations include NC State Parks, NC Historic Sites, the NC Symphony, the NC Zoo, and more (click here for a list of our DNCR’s 100+ sites and programs you can visit!)
